If everyone were the same, the world would be very boring. Our differences make the world more unique, interesting, and exciting. A place where we can explore and discover practices and cultures that are unlike what we've known and can enrich our lives by learning something new. Yet, it doesn't mean we aren't often confused by some of the customs and traditions we see other people celebrating globally. The people of the United States are no different. These are the American customs that confuse people worldwide.

Compared to the rest of the world, the U.S. is a relatively newer nation, founded less than 250 years ago in 1776, and the practices employed here can seem puzzling at times, even to those who live there.

To compile a list of American customs that confuse people worldwide, 24/7 Tempo reviewed several sources including Business Insider and Forbes. These traditions listed are only a fraction of what takes place in the country and while many of these listed here seem far from strange, many only make sense if you were born and raised in the U.S. Those who visit the U.S. or immigrate here often find those habits and practices listed here unusual. (For more cultural differences, check out these iconic American dishes that have become global favorites.)
