This article highlights actors who managed to maintain or even boost their careers despite starring in box office failures. These actors continued to secure prominent roles and deliver successful performances after their movies underperformed financially.
Idris Elba
Idris Elba didn't let the box office disaster "Cats" ruin his career. Even after "Cats," he went on to star in great movies like "The Suicide Squad," "Thor: Love and Thunder," and "Sonic the Hedgehog 3."
Dwayne Johnson
At this point, Dwayne Johnson is untouchable. It doesn't matter how many bad or poorly rated movies he makes, he'll keep getting roles. Even after the box office bomb of "Jungle Cruise," he starred in "Black Adam" and "Moana 2."
Daniel Craig
"Cowboys & Aliens" barely made back its budget but did nothing to Daniel Craig's acting career. Since this film, he's worked on "Knives Out" and "Skyfall."
Ryan Reynolds
Most people know Ryan Reynolds for his excellent portrayal of Deadpool. But before he played this character, he starred in the fail, "Green Lantern."
Tom Cruise
Tom Cruise is another untouchable actor. It doesn't matter if his movies do good or bad or lose money his name alone brings fans to the theaters. "The Mummy" (2017) was a box office fail, and yet Tom Cruise's career remained solid. After this release, he went on to star in "Mission: Impossible – Fallout" and "Top Gun: Maverick."
Taylor Kitsch
"John Carter" didn't make back its money. Still, that didn't harm Taylor Kitsch's career. Since then he's starred in "Lone Survivor" and "American Assassin."
Storm Reid
Storm Reid didn't let the flop, "A Wrinkle in Time," ruin her career. Even after this movie lost money, she starred in "The Invisible Man," "The Suicide Squad," and "Euphoria."
Elijah Wood
Have you ever heard of "Radio Flyer?" It was a movie that flopped majorly. Against a budget of $35 million, it earned less than $5 million at the box office. Still, this didn't stop Elijah Wood from starring in hit films and shows like "Yellowjackets" and "The Monkey."
Antonio Banderas
Can you believe that Antonio Banderas starred in a profit-losing money? Although a seasoned actor, "The 13th Warrior" did very poorly. After this film, he starred in "Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams" and "Shrek 2."
Robert Downey Jr.
There are a lot of untouchable actors on our list. One of these is Robert Downey Jr., who starred in the terribly reviewed film "Dolittle" in 2020. On the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer, the score sits at 15%.
Kurt Russell
Out of a budget of $60 million, "Soldier" (1998) only earned $14.6 million. Although the movie was a box office failure, this didn't hinder Kurt Russel's ability to land acting jobs. Since then, he's starred in "Furious 7" and "The Christmas Chronicles."
