7 Famous Couples Who Were Forced to Stay Together for the Press
Have you ever looked at a celebrity couple and shook your head, knowing they weren't actually together? Relationships and drama for PR are pretty common. You probably know the saying - any PR is good PR.
Although there are a lot of specialized cases of fake relationships, there are quite a few confirmed cases. In these cases, celebrities themselves came out, letting the audience know there was no relationship. And there are probably way more fake 'celebrity couples' out there who we will never know about.
Want to test your relationship guessing skills? Click through the slideshow for seven doomed couples who were forced to stay together for the press, along with a few potential fake couples.
Note: While we can speculate on relationships, the truth is we may never know. Some of these 'fake' couples may have been real. What do you think?
Nick Lachey and Kim Kardashian
Celebrity news followers from the 2000s probably remember this strange couple. For just a few months, Kim Kardashian and Nick Lachey dated, but none of it was real. Lachey commented more recently that it was a PR relationship and they only went on one date. On that date, in 2006, the couple went to see "The Da Vinci Code," although they didn't get to see the whole film, and paparazzi were conveniently outside the doors.
Nicole Richie and Brody Jenner
Did anyone believe Nicole Richie and Brody Jenner were really together? This short-lived relationship between the two childhood friends, like the one with Kardashian and Lachey, wasn't real. Jenner used Richie to boost his fame and recognition (allegedly).
Jay-Z and Rihanna
Jay-Z and Rihanna never dated or had an affair with each other, although almost everyone in 2005 believed the opposite. That was all thanks to publicist Jonathan Hay, who created and spread the rumor to boost Rihanna's first single, "Pon de Replay."
Steve-O and Nicole Richie
Nicole Richie was in a lot of love scandals in the early 2000s, including one with Steve-O. According to rumors, though, their love story was fabricated. Paparazzi didn't think so and followed them around for a few months.
Rachel Bilson and Nick Viall
A more recent fake relationship was between Rachel Bilson and Nick Viall. They both have admitted to faking the relationship after becoming close friends. They never even went on a date. Instead, they fake-flirted on the internet, stirring up rumors.
Nicki Minaj and DJ Khaled
Did you know DJ Khaled once proposed to Nicki Minaj? Unsurprisingly, this wasn't real and instead a way to promote Nicki Minaj's music. He proposed to her on an MTV video.
Tara Reid and Dean May
In 2016, while filming for "Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars," Tara Reid revealed that she and Dean May weren't in a relationship. Instead, they faked it to be on the reality show.
Celebrity Couples Fans THINK Were Faked
So, who else might have faked their relationship? Keep reading to find out popular couples that fans don't/didn't think are real.
Bad Bunny and Kendall Jenner
Barely anyone believed Bad Bunny and Kendall Jenner were in a relationship. They didn't seem super affectionate and are very different people. This definitely felt like a PR couple to get attention from different communities. Oh well. The two have since broken up.
Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson
It's always a little suspicious when lead actors get together. Although not impossible, it feels very convenient for press tours and interviews. One relationship where some fans didn't think was real was between "Twilight" stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. They dated for about four years.
Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens
Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens ended their relationship shortly after the last "High School Musical" film was released. It felt too close to the ending of the series for some fans to consider their relationship real.
Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn
Some people also consider the relationship between Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn as fake. Of course, this depends on who you ask. Aniston sees Vaughn positively, even after their short romantic relationship and swift breakup. She's previously credited him as being a super big help while divorcing Brad Pitt.
Tom Hiddleston and Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift is no stranger to relationships, but were all of them real? According to some fans, no, especially the one with Tom Hiddleston. It only lasted a summer, and the two seemed to have nothing in common.
Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson
Last but not least is one of the weirdest relationships. While divorcing Kanye West, Kim Kardashian got into a relationship with Pete Davidson. The odd pair dated for a few months, although few people believe the relationship was real. The few people who did think the relationship was real cite Kanye's reactions as being too extreme to be fake.
