25 Upscale Restaurant Chains Ranked by Customer Satisfaction

Upscale restaurant chains often promise more than just a meal. Many are built around polished service, elegant dining rooms, steak and seafood menus, curated wine lists, and the kind of atmosphere people seek out for birthdays, anniversaries, business dinners, and special occasions. But when customers spend more for a night out, expectations are higher, and not every fine-dining brand earns the same level of praise.

To identify the upscale restaurant chains customers rated most highly, 24/7 Tempo reviewed Nation’s Restaurant News’ report, “Which Fine-Dining Restaurant Brands Score Highest for Customer Satisfaction?” Published in September 2023, the report used Merchant Centric’s Happy Customer Index and covered the measurement period from May 2022 through April 2023. Merchant Centric analyzed millions of online ratings, reviews, and comments from Google, TripAdvisor, and other platforms, focusing on themes including food, quality, staff demeanor, staff dedication, timeliness, order accuracy, price and value, and loyalty and referrals.

There are two different kinds of scores below. The overall rating is measured on a five-star scale and determines the ranking. Food, staff demeanor, and order accuracy are Theme Performance Scores, or TPS. These are ratios rather than five-point ratings. A TPS of 3.5, for example, means customers mentioned that theme positively 3.5 times as often as negatively. Nation’s Restaurant News classified brands with overall ratings of 4.6 or higher as Leaders, those at 4.30 or higher as Straddlers, and the remaining brands as Chasers. Steak 48 finished first with a 4.72 overall rating. The location counts below reflect the figures published with the source data and should not be read as current 2026 store counts.
