They may not appear on screen, but voice actors are the driving force behind some of our most beloved characters. In fact, these unique performers shape our emotional connection to characters in ways we often take for granted. Their voices become part of our cultural fabric, even if we can't always put a face to the name.
Many of the most legendary voice actors have played hundreds, even thousands, of roles across film, television, and video games. Because of their diverse careers, these performers display incredible range, breathing life into everything from princesses and villains to robots and woodland creatures and beyond.

Mel Blanc is truly a legend. Born on May 30, 1908, he's played multiple characters in TV shows and media and even provided sound effects for old radio stations. So, what is he known for? Mel Blanc has starred in "The Flintstones" as the lovable Barney and "The Jetsons" as Cosmo. These are just a few of his incredible character work. If we were to list them all, we'd be here all day.
H. Jon Benjamin
You may not recognize the name H. Jon Benjamin, but you've definitely heard his voice. This actor is the deadpan genius behind some of adult animation's most iconic characters. He's best known for voicing Bob Belcher in "Bob's Burgers" and the suave but clueless Sterling Archer in "Archer," two roles that showcase his unmistakable comedic delivery. He's also lent his voice to many other projects, continuing to amass fan bases across everything he voices.
Tara Strong
It's not an exaggeration to say that Tara Strong shaped so many of our childhoods. This incredible voice actress is one of the top in the industry. Born on February 12, 1973, she's played hundreds of characters in shows like "The Fairly OddParents," "Chowder," "Teen Titans," and "DC Super Hero Girls." She's also known for her voice work in various video games like "Mortal Kombat X."
Jim Cummings
Jim Cummings is also a childhood maker and a voice actor who's done so much work in Disney films. Not only has he played the voice of Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, but also Ray in "The Princess and the Frog." Talk about range!
John DiMaggio
While you probably haven't seen John DiMaggio, you've likely heard his voice. John DiMaggio was born on September 4, 1968, and is a spectacular voice actor. He's lent his voice to roles like Bender on "Futurama" and Jake the Dog on "Adventure Time."
Seth MacFarlane
Seth MacFarlane is practically a household name for his work on adult animation series like "Family Guy" and "American Dad." You might also know this voice actor for his role in "Ted," which he wrote, directed, and starred in. Honestly, what hasn't he done?
Jodi Benson
If you're a fan of Disney's animated movie, "The Little Mermaid," then you definitely know Jodi Benson. She played Ariel in the movies but has other amazing voice roles. For instance, Jodi Benson also voiced Barbie in the Toy Story Franchise. Apart from this, she also lent her voice to "Thumbelina."
Nancy Cartwright
Do you recognize the name Nancy Cartwright? She is a phenomenal voice actress who doesn't get enough credit. Nancy plays the voice of Bart in "The Simpsons." For her voice acting in this role, she's won a Primetime Emmy Award. Not impressed yet? Cartwright also voiced Chuckie Finster in "The Rugrats."
Cree Summer
Cree Summer is another legendary voice actress. Born on July 7, 1969, she has a long list of work. Cree is best known for voicing iconic characters in animated series and movies like "Rugrats," "Clifford the Big Red Dog," and "Barbie as Rapunzel."
Phil LaMarr
Phil LaMarr is another great addition to this list of iconic and legendary voice actors. While you might not recognize his face, you'll know his face. He's also a childhood maker, lending his voice to roles in "Samurai Jack," "The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius," and "Static Shock."
Mae Questel
Mae Questel deserves a lot more credit and recognition as one of the first top female voice actresses in the world. Although the name might not ring a bell, you'll know her from the shows and shorts she's starred in, "Betty Boop" and "Olive Oyl."
Patrick Warburton
Who is Patrick Warburton? Well, he is the voice behind Kronk in Disney's "The Emperor's New Groove." Apart from his amazing voice acting in this series as well as "The Venture Bros.", Warburton has also starred in live-action series and movies, including "The Tick" and "A Series for Unfortunate Events."
Kevin Conroy
Next on our slideshow of legendary voice actors is Kevin Conroy. Born on November 30, 1955, lent his voice and talent to a lot of series and movies. You might best know him for his voice work playing Batman in various DC movies, video games, and shows.
Robin Williams
Robin Williams is more of an honorary mention considering his voice-acting skills are amazing, but there are few people who don't recognize his name and face. His long list of achievements and roles truly feels endless. Robin Williams not only played the Genie in Disney's "Aladdin," but also as multiple characters in the Happy Feet franchise.
Jack Black
Jack Black is also an honorary legend. Who doesn't know his name by now? Still, did you know he's lent his voice to many TV series and movies? Jack Black has played characters in "Kungfu Panda," "Shark Tale," "Ice Age," and more recently, "The Super Mario Bros. Movie."
Billy West
Billy West has such a recognizable face. This great voice actor is best known for his role as Philip J. Fry in "Futurama." He's also played other characters in that same series, including Professor Farnsworth and Dr. Zoidberg. Apart from this, he also lent his voice to play Bugs Bunny in "Space Jam."
Mark Hamill
Who doesn't know Mark Hamill? Although many people know him for his role as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise, he's also voice-acted. Hamill played the voice of Batman in "Batman: The Animated Series." He was also Fire Lord Ozai in "Avatar: The Last Airbender."
Dan Castellaneta
Also on our list is Dan Castellaneta, an iconic voice actor with a long list of characters. He is especially known for voicing Homer Simpson in "The Simpsons." Apart from this character, he's also voiced Thing 1 and Thing 2 in "The Cat in the Hat."
June Foray
Disney lovers should know June Foray. She is a legend in voice acting, providing the voice of Lucifer for Disney's "Cinderella." She also played multiple voice roles for shorts dating as far back as 1943. Did you know June Foray's voice is in "Mulan"? In this movie, she played Grandmother Fa.
Verna Felton
Another older voice actress who is truly legendary and is a Disney star is Verna Felton. What movies hasn't she been in? Verna Felton was the voice for the Fairy Godmother in Disney's "Cinderella." She also played the Queen of Hearts in "Alice in Wonderland."
Laura Bailey
Laura Bailey is more modern than Verna Felton but deserves a mention for her incredible voice-acting skills. Bailey is an anime star, lending her voice to roles in "Dragon Ball Z," "Glitter Force," and "Fruits Basket." She is also known for her voice acting roles in popular video games like "Star Wars: The Old Republic," "World of Warcraft," and "Street Fighter."
Peter Cullen
Fans of the Transformers series know Peter Cullen's name very well. He's the voice behind Optimus Prime. This isn't his only well-known role, though. Cullen also plays the voice of Eeyore in the Winnie the Pooh franchise.
Russi Taylor
Russi Taylor is one of the most quietly well-known voice actors in the world. You probably won't recognize her name, but you'll know her voice. Russi Taylor voiced Minnie Mouse in many films and TV series from 1986 to 2019. She also played characters in "The Simpsons."
Grey DeLisle
Grey DeLisle, also credited as Grey Griffin, has an impressive list of roles. She's voiced over 2,000 roles. Some of the roles you may best know her from are as Daphne in multiple Scooby-Doo films, Vicky and Tootie in "The Fairly OffParents," and Mandy in "The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy."
Kari Wahlgren
Kari Wahlgren's voice acting work is incredible. Like Grey Griffin, she's played iconic characters, including one in "The Fairly OddParents." Kari has experience in both anime-voice overs and American animation. She's played characters in "The Winx Cub," "Ben 10," and "Phineas and Ferb."
Keith David
Last but not least is Keith David, who has experience both in love and animated productions. For voice acting, Keith has played Dr. Facilier in "The Princess and the Frog," The Flame King in "Adventure Time," and The President in "Rick and Morty."
