17 Common Mistakes to Avoid on an Alaska Cruise

An Alaska cruise is a little different from your typical vacation at sea. Instead of tropical beaches and warm sunshine, you're sailing past glaciers, snowcapped mountains, and some of the most spectacular scenery in North America. But Alaska also comes with a few surprises, from unpredictable weather and busy ports to excursions that can sell out long before your ship arrives.

Even experienced cruisers can find themselves unprepared. Packing for the wrong weather, booking a cabin without considering the itinerary, or waiting until the last minute to arrange shore excursions can all put a damper on an otherwise incredible trip. And when you're spending thousands of dollars on a vacation, those little mistakes can add up.

Fortunately, most of these problems are easy to avoid with a little planning. 24/7 Tempo looks at 17 common Alaska cruise mistakes, covering everything from what to pack and which excursions to book to wildlife viewing, cabin selection, and making the most of your time in port.
