10 U.S. Cities That Tourists Feel Unwelcomed In

As someone who's wandered through countless cities with a suitcase in hand, I've learned that the vibe of a place isn't just about the food, sights, or hotels—it's about the people. And let me tell you, when locals warn you their city isn't exactly overflowing with warmth, believe them. Sure, you'll stumble across the occasional friendly face anywhere, but in some places, those smiles are simply harder to come by.

So whether you're flying in from abroad or planning a domestic getaway, consider this a heads-up: these cities have reputations for being unwelcoming. If a warm, inviting atmosphere is high on your list, you may want to think twice before booking your next trip here.

To populate this list, we looked at rankings for the most unfriendly cities supplied by reputable sources of information from travelers, such as Yelp and MapQuest. We also looked through the Reddit forums for each city on the list to see if there were unbiased opinions of the city's friendliness from both travelers and residents.
