The Wizarding World fills its tables with foods that sound downright delicious. Hogwarts students regularly sit down to enormous feasts, and it sounds like those house elves really know how to cook! They also have places like Honeydukes that are packed with magical candy. But wizards apparently aren’t satisfied with ordinary sweets like chocolate bars and gummy bears. Their snacks are a bit more interesting: they jump, explode, change flavors, and can make the person eating them quite sick. These eight foods remind us that even grabbing a quick snack can be an adventure in the Harry Potter universe.
Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans

Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans look like ordinary jellybeans, but eating them requires courage. Don’t expect the Muggle flavors of cherry or watermelon. The boxes can contain beans that taste like the worst things imaginable, including liver, tripe, and grass. In one book, Dumbledore mentions once getting a vomit-flavored bean; as he tries another, he announces it tastes like earwax. Though they also have some delicious flavors mixed in, like peppermint and chocolate, there doesn’t seem to be a way to tell the disgusting flavors from the yummy ones without just going for it and popping one in your mouth. It’s like the candy version of roulette.
Chocolate Frogs

Chocolate Frogs are exactly what they sound like: pieces of chocolate shaped like frogs. The weird part is that they’re enchanted to act like actual frogs. It’s bad enough when you misplace your chocolate, without having to worry it will literally jump out of your hand. In the movies, Harry learns this the hard way when his first Chocolate Frog leaps out of the window of the Hogwarts Express. Each package also comes with a collectible card featuring a famous witch or wizard, making them part snack and part experience. Apparently, the Wizarding World decided regular chocolate wasn’t good enough; they like their treats with a little risk attached.
Cockroach Clusters

This is maybe J.K. Rowling’s most disgusting concept. Cockroach Clusters are one of the most bizarre sweets sold in the Wizarding World, particularly at Honeydukes in the village of Hogsmeade. What’s funny is that they never clarify the actual ingredients in these sweet treats, but their name is enough to induce a gag or two. Even in a world where children are surprisingly OK with eating vomit-flavored candy, a snack that involves cockroaches in any capacity seems like it would be a hard no for most people.Â
Fizzing Whizzbees

Fizzing Whizzbees might taste absolutely delicious, but the sherbet-like balls cause the person eating them to float several inches off the ground. Like other candy on this list, they’re sold at Honeydukes and would never pass a Muggle FDA inspection. Parents have enough to deal with when their kids are hyped up on sugar without them floating around the room to boot. Alas, Wizarding children just expect more from candy than boring Muggles do.
Acid Pops

The name Acid Pops really should be enough to have consumers questioning this product. These lollipops are so acidic that they can actually burn a hole through someone’s tongue, which just doesn’t sound very pleasant to us. Ron mentions that Fred once gave one to him when they were younger, and he ended up with that exact injury. Yet, somehow, the candy is still openly sold to children. The fact that these pops exist raises some serious questions about the wizarding candy industry. Even if we had our own personal Madam Pomfrey, we wouldn’t be up for trying one of these.Â
Canary Creams

Fred and George Weasley were never concerned with practicality; they were too focused on fun and joking around. Canary Creams look like ordinary custard creams, but those who pay attention to the specific name might have an idea of what customers can expect. Anyone who eats one turns into a big canary. However, the effect is temporary and after about a minute, the person molts and goes back to normal. Still, we’d hate to think what Muggles would think if they accidentally got their hands on one of these. The Ministry would have some major memory modification to do. This one reminds us that it’s probably best to ask a few questions before accepting a treat from a Weasley twin.
Puking Pastilles

Puking Pastilles is one unique sweet. It’s the only food that we know of ever intentionally made to force the person eating them to vomit. These were created by the lovable Fred and George, and there was a method to their madness. They were featured in their Skiving Snackboxes, which were created to help students fake illnesses and get out of a particularly boring class. However, there is a remedy built right into this one; while one end of the candy makes the eater violently sick, the opposite end quickly heals them. Still, we won’t be stocking up on puking pastilles any time soon.
Blood-Flavored Lollipops

Blood-flavored lollipops are sold at Honeydukes, and though anyone can buy them, they are intended for vampires. Harry notices them while visiting the candy shop, and they’re displayed casually just like other products on the shelves. We actually think it’s pretty thoughtful that Honeydukes accommodates customers with unusual dietary needs. Still, no one expects to see a blood-flavored candy next to their favorite chocolate.
