The Most Expensive Concert Tickets in 2024

The Most Expensive Concert Tickets in 2024

The pandemic scuttled live concert performances in the United States for several years starting in 2020, and it’s taken several years for people to feel comfortable about attending a live event. But buoyed by more economic optimism, Americans are returning to see live concerts in droves. Pent-up demand, among other factors, is driving up ticket prices.

Gametime, an app/site for last minute tickets, has released new data highlighting the 10 Most Anticipated Concert Tours of 2024, based on median ticket price.

Concert shows have become elaborate staging events and there is a price to be paid for that. Inflation has boosted the costs for vendors and the price for the venue itself.

Ticketmaster, which dominates the ticket-purchasing industry, has been a lightning rod for the high ticket-price criticism. Ticket prices include service, convenience, processing, and facilities fees as well as other charges. While Ticketmaster pockets some of the fees generated, the venues, promoters, and the artists all get a cut.

Based on the mean price, the 10 artists with the priciest tickets cover virtually all genres: country (Garth Brooks and Morgan Wallen), rock ‘n’ roll (U2, The Eagles, Billy Joel), rap (Bad Bunny), classical (Andrea Bocelli), and pop (Adele, Olivia Rodrigo, and Taylor Swift).

Swift is coming off her 2023 Eras Tour that featured 151 shows on five continents and generated $1 billion in revenue. The media have written or broadcast many stories about her impact on the economy. They even credited her tour with helping boost cities such as Los Angeles that are still struggling to recover from COVID-19. (She also features on another list — here are old songs that came back to be massive hits in 2023.)
