When many of us travel internationally, we often come across unique and interesting foods, and cuisines that are unlike anything we might have ever seen before. In a world comprised of 195 countries, it is estimated that there are thousands of different cultures, and each one typically has its own food traditions. However, in a country as diverse as the United States, we don't need to travel outside of its borders to find unusual food unlike what we might be used to. From Maine to Florida, Texas to Alaska, this is the most bizarre food from every state.

It seems as though almost every town and city has a distinctive way of cooking foods and discovering ways to eat things that other places might find distasteful or simply ignore. The most vivid showcases for regional food variations in America can be discovered at state and county fairs, known for their sometimes silly but often tasty inventions. There aren't many places where you can partake in deep-fried everything from Snickers to funnel cakes to mac and cheese.

24/7 Tempo has assembled a list of the most bizarre food from every state. Not just at fairs but in America in general, state by state, by reviewing articles on the subject in a wide range of publications, including the Travel Channel, Bizarre Food, and others. It may come as no surprise that some of the most unusual foods come from the South, one of the country's richest culinary regions.

It should be noted that although the foods listed here might be considered unusual, they aren't necessarily unpleasant. Some of them may seem like bad ideas, but many of them are genuinely delicious and all of them are perhaps worth considering if you're someplace where they're served. (Here are the most iconic Southern foods you have to try at least once.)
