25 Forgotten Movies From the 2000s That Critics Now Call Genius
Some of the best movies now regarded as cult classics either bombed or did just okay at the box office. While they may not have been popular in the moment, ten or twenty years later, it's weird to meet someone who hasn't heard of these films. Honestly, most people's favorite movies usually aren't the ones that made it big, but instead were childhood favorites. Nostalgia is powerful.
The reason a movie bombs at the box office is for many reasons. This doesn't mean the movie is terrible. Sometimes, the marketing just wasn't good, or the film was rushed to the theaters, meaning no one knew it was coming out. Another reason is tough competition. How often have you wanted to see a movie only to realize another 2 or 3 great films have also been released? Choosing which one to watch is tough.
For this slideshow, 24/7 Tempo included a wide range of films. They are in just about every genre and rating. The movies picked for this list aren't just based on reviews or ratings. We also chose some that are frequently watched, although the reviews are less than 70%. To find these movies, we used entertainment sources like IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes. We also used Reddit to see what movies internet users love and reference, even without stellar reviews and huge box office earnings.
