Baseball has been one of the most popular sports in the United States almost since it first began. Although today's version of the game is slightly different from the early version Americans played before the Civil War, the concept remains the same. It is a game that became the national sport by 1860 and is still often referred to as "America's favorite pastime." Although the game has been challenged recently as the top sport, and according to Pew Research, football is now known as "America's sport."

Whether you prefer football or still have a fondness for baseball, there's no denying that the sport has given us legendary players who have left lasting impressions, as well as many memorable quotes. The sports landscape of today may be vastly different from yesteryear and players face constant scrutiny and direct criticism via online social platforms, but the wise words of those who came before them still resonate.

To gather this list of the most legendary quotes in baseball history, 24/7 Tempo consulted sports-centered websites. These include MLB.com, JustBats, and ESPN.com. For more baseball coverage, check out the best MLB players from each state.
