Have you ever seen a ball of lightning traveling in the air? Or what about red rain pouring down hard? Weather isn't all what it seems. There are so many different types of strange weather events that you've probably never heard of, including dry lightning. That's right, you can sometimes see lightning strikes on a fully sunny day with no storm in your line of sight.

The weather is fascinating. While weather forecasters work hard to predict weather, the weather has a mind of its own. A 60% chance of rain can easily turn into 10%. We've all had those days when we prepped for a rainy day, only to be met with sunshine, heat, and not a cloud in the sky. This is all normal! But what about strange weather? It's not all just sunshine, rain, tornadoes, and snow.

Even the harshest of storms are nothing to someone who is used to the weather. Actually, some people even dedicate their lives to chasing and recording storms. Storm chasing has been a popular and thrilling pastime and career since the 1970s. (Click here to learn about the most famous storm chasers in the U.S.)

To curate this list, 24/7 Tempo consulted various science and weather online sources for the most bizarre weather events. We decided to leave out major storms like regular tornadoes, hurricanes, thunderstorms, and snow storms since they aren't uncommon. The websites we consulted for this listicle include the National Weather Service, Desert News, the Weather Channel, and BBC Science Focus Magazine.
