Music is a large part of many lives. Whether listening to the radio, streaming services, or attending concerts, most of us have been influenced by a musician or band in our lives. Close attention is always given to how musicians act, dress, talk, and overall conduct their lives in and outside of the band. Many iconic bands, like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, have been around for decades, a longevity attributed to their music, ability to keep up with trends, and staying true to their origins.

But others become forgotten legends. For reasons not entirely clear, many once-iconic bands have simply disappeared, their music fading away with them. They either retired amicably, simply stopped "being a band," or in the case of one in particular, the members' drug use and politics got in the way of their success. And songs once deemed iconic are now barely a memory.

To compile this list of forgotten legends that were erased by drugs and politics, 24/7 Tempo consulted music-related sources, including Rolling Stone, Apple Music, and Billboard.
