“Jeopardy!”, the television game show in which contestants have to answer clues in the form of a question, has challenged contestants with clues in hundreds of categories. Since the reboot first aired in 1984 with host Alex Trebek, one of the categories long-favored by the showrunners has been the military. (The original show, created by producer and talk-show host Merv Griffin, ran from 1964-1975 in the daytime.)
24/7 Tempo went through J! Archives — a site created by fans of the show that lists clues going back to 1984 — to identify some of the most interesting and challenging questions about the military.
During the course of its celebrated run on television, the game show has built up legions of fans as contestants as well as viewers challenge themselves on topics including the military. (Also See The 21 Greatest Generals in American History.)
The clues presented by the Jeopardy! quizmasters are mostly, but not exclusively, about the American military. They include clues about military terminology, famous generals, tactics, installations, and wars.
Some of the contestants have carved out their own celebrity status in the process. They include James Holzhauer, whose streak of 32 straight wins in 2019 helped propel “Jeopardy!” to new ratings highs, and Amy Schneider, who became the first woman to win $1 million on the show. Another celebrated contestant, Ken Jennings, became the show’s host after Trebek passed away in 2020.
