Life is filled with highs and lows; constant ebbs and flows that can affect our daily life both in positive and negative ways. But unlike many people, when we have bad days, or when things don't go quite as we had planned, we can often hide it from the world, recover as best we can and move on. Our emotions aren't always on display for the world to see.

For those in the public eye, with professions that seem to always be in the spotlight, it can be hard masking their misfortunes or feelings. Especially in the world of sports, a profession where highs and lows are showcased in every competition or game. As ABC's "Wild World of Sports" once put so succinctly, we are witness to "the thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat."

No one likes to lose, but in the sports world, where the hyper-competitive personalities of athletes are combined with the insanely intense pressure of competing in high-profile and often high-stakes events, anyone can lose their cool. (But many athletes remain calm in the face of pressure, like the ballplayers who recently competed in the MLB Home Run Derby.)

To compile a list of athletes renowned for their fiery tempers, 24/7 Tempo consulted ESPN and other sports websites, as well as other sources, like YouTube. Only athletes who have lost their tempers multiple times during the competition were included.

Most of the time, athletes take losses and bad calls in stride and move on to the next competition. Yet some apparently can't contain their temper at even the slightest perceived transgression or insult. These hotheads feud with anyone, from coaches and teammates to opponents, officials, and even fans, often earn them large fines and sometimes long suspensions. (Maybe fines don't matter if they're among the 100 highest-paid athletes in America.)

In the past, these outbursts of anger would only be seen if a TV camera was around. But with today's social media channels, every fight is documented on YouTube or Twitter, so athletes can't deny the incident ever took place. (These are some scandals that rocked the sports world.) No one denies the talent of the athletes listed here. But it's also true their anger management issues that clouded otherwise stellar careers.

Here are athletes renowned for their fiery tempers.
