People love movies when they can relate to the protagonists. Movie watchers connect to characters for different reasons. Some may share physical and visual characteristics. Others may treat their co-stars politely. One thing almost everyone can agree on is how refreshing it is to see a likable character on screen.
There are plenty of reasons fans would think of a character as redeeming. Whether they’re relatable, they’re kind to others, or they exhibit behaviors fans aspire to emulate, we know of several incredible characters who fit the mold. Spider-Man in “Spider-Man: Homecoming”

Having a pure heart is the easiest way to be thought of as likable. No matter what “Spider-Man” movie you watch, it’s apparent this hero prioritizes friendship, love, and the safety of mankind. “Spider-Man: Homecoming” is the first movie starring Tom Holland in the titular role.
Even fighting in “Captain America: Civil War,” Spider-Man takes time to apologize to the different heroes he’s fighting against. Watching his romance with Mary Jane blossom is one of the best parts of the MCU. Spider-Man never tries too hard to be likable – he just is.
Dory in “Finding Nemo”

“Finding Nemo” was a hit in theaters, thanks in large part to one adorably animated character: Dory. In fact, she was so popular she got her own movie afterward. Dory is a lost and clueless fish with good intentions for the world. She’s pure-hearted and thinks everyone around her only has her best interests at heart in return. Sadly, that isn’t always the case. Even when she finds out everyone isn’t as kind as her, it doesn’t change her or her view on the world.
Wall-E in “Wall-E”

Robots were never thought of as cute or sweet until the character of Wall-E came along. His eyes look wildly innocent and he playfully rolls around enjoying his life. This is a character looking for love and friendship. He searches for someone to continue to exploring space with. The “Wall-E” movie has become a classic since children and adults find Wall-E to be the perfect gentleman.
Russell in “Up”

The adventures that take place in “Up” make movie-goers realize how pure-hearted many people are when they’re younger. Russell is no exception to this, as he ends up getting stuck with Carl Fredrickson. Fredrickson is an older man who lost the love of his life and feels like he has nothing left. Russell is looking for someone to look up to and reminds Carl how precious life is. The duo don’t get along at first, but Russell maintains a positive outlook the entire movie.
Chewbacca in “Star Wars”
Being bigger in size than everyone else means you have to be very careful about how you move around and live your life. Chewbacca is known for his kind heart, brains, and dedication to Han Solo. Without him, Han wouldn’t be anywhere close to the man he became in the “Star Wars” franchise. Everyone needs a friend like Chewbacca to help them out and be an emotional support.
Ferris Bueller in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”
Many folks who saw “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” immediately resonated with him and wanted to live vicariously through the character. Like most people, he just needed a break from the grueling grind that is high school. In order to make it happen, he goes through a lot. The dean of his school is determined to get him caught and in trouble, making fans root even more for the innocent Bueller to continue on his day.

Adventure is in our DNA, and watching Indiana Jones go on his countless exhibitions is satisfying to watch. Jones is on the hunt for treasure, but does everything in his power to not harm anyone or the history he comes in close contact with. Harrison Ford knew how to make the character likable in the “Indiana Jones” franchise.
Harry Potter in “Harry Potter”
It’s no secret Harry Potter is on a quest to get rid of the evil Lord Voldemort. However, aside from this, Potter is known as one of the kindest people in all of movie history. His humble upbringing didn’t skew his view on the world In fact, it made him appreciate it that much more when he finally found himself among people who love him and accept him. Potter would do anything to keep those he loves and cares for safe, which is a quality we can all admire.
Buddy in “Elf”

It’s not Christmas time until “Elf” comes on television! Buddy is an elf who only knows Santa and kindness. He spreads his joy for life by screaming in celebration for “the world’s best coffee.” His real father is a workaholic who has no appreciation for the life he has. He ignores his other son and wife, doing whatever it takes to not be around for Christmas. Buddy brings laughter and protection for all he comes in contact with.
Alfred Pennyworth in “The Dark Knight”
There’s no Batman without Alfred as a trusted sidekick. After the untimely death of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne, Alfred takes in young Bruce and raises him to adulthood. Alfred serves as a butler who helps give Bruce the dream life. Bruce knows how important and vital Alfred is to his operation, so Alfred is always treated him with respect. The other characters in “Batman” movies and TV show love to Alfred. They appreciate all he does to keep Bruce safe from harm.
Scott Hatteburg in “Moneyball”

Everyone loves watching an underdog story in a movie. What’s even better than that is when it’s based on reality. This was the case for Scott Hatteburg in “Moneyball.” The former catcher recently had elbow surgery and thought he’d never be able to play baseball again.
He got his chance and delivered one of the most memorable moments in MLB history. Hatteburg would hit the walk-off home run that would extend the Oakland Athletics winning streak to the all-time record. He was so happy and thankful for the opportunity to play again and didn’t take it for granted.
Woody in “Toy Story”

The “Toy Story” franchise wouldn’t be complete without Woody. Even though he has some moments where his judgement is questioned, he always does whatever he can for his fellow toys to feel safe and loved. Woody and Buzz Lightyear save the day whenever it’s needed for him. The leader of the toys knows how to draw the line between being kind and being too much.

“It’s A Wonderful Life” is recognized as being one of the most important movies ever made. Most everyone has felt down about themselves at one point in life, but George Bailey got the chance to see the world without him. After seeing this, the end of the movie allows viewers to watch George change his entire view on the world and spread love. This film is commonly played on Christmas Eve every year as a reminder how important the little things are.
Will Hunting in “Good Will Hunting”

There’s something satisfying about watching a janitor take on the top minds at Harvard. “Good Will Hunting” explores this idea, and Will makes the most of his opportunity. Even after being bullied and played by the other students at Harvard, Will wouldn’t ever retaliate in a negative way. He always kept his composure, which is why he came out on top and is revered by audiences around the world.
Ted in “Ted”

Even though he is incredibly flawed as a character, Ted hits the heart for everyone who watches the movie. The cute teddy bear magically came to life and rather than follow the traditional stuffed animal route, Ted is known for his drug usage and drinking. Ted becomes likable because he knows himself, but still doesn’t let that define him.
He gets a job and is going after love, even getting it at one point. Ted helps teach Johnny how to live life the right way and to be in the moment. He’s a friend who will always be around, no matter what Johnny says or does.
Superman in “Man of Steel”

Imagine how hard it would be to maintain a level head when you’re far superior to everyone on the planet you’re on. Superman faces this challenge every day, yet he manages to stay even keeled in “Man of Steel.” He has a regular job, helped out on the family farm as a teenager, and faces the normal problems everyone else faces. Despite this, he keeps the world safe from villains whenever they need him to.

An entire generation was raised on the “High School Musical” series, with one of the most likable and relatable characters being Gabriella. As a new student, Gabriella is known for her brains and singing ability. She sees Troy Bolton as the star basketball player who could have any girl he wants. Troy is charmed by Gabriella’s kind heart and sweet personality. Fans loved watching the duo as they grew closer together during the three movies.

One of the most iconic movies of all is “The Wizard of Oz.” Dorothy Gale is hit on the head and finds herself needing to return home to Kansas. Along the way, she helps three different people, all of whom resemble different family members of hers. The Scarecrow needed brains, the Tin Man needed a heart, and the Lion needed courage.
Dorothy put aside her journey in order to help these three men get what they needed. She also fought the evil Wicked Witch of the West to keep that world safe. Dorothy made sure all was good before she left for Kansas.
Jack Sparrow in “Pirates of the Caribbean”

Even though he’s an alcoholic who doesn’t know what’s going on most of the time, Jack Sparrow always has good intentions for his pirate crew in “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Sparrow is always fighting other crews and keeping those around him safe, even when they abandon him.
The charm Sparrow has to get out of the situations he constantly finds himself in is why fans around the world adore him. There’s always a lesson to be taught from Sparrow in every movie he’s in. They all revolve around how important it is to be positive in this world.
Jack Dawson in “Titanic”

Giving your life for someone you love is the best way to show how much you care for them. In the film “Titanic,” Jack Dawson was looking to get to New York City to try and get his life going in a more positive manner. However, he met Rose on the Titanic and immediately lost all regard for himself and what he was looking for.
His life became trying to figure out how to win over the girl who’s at the top of the social ladder, while he was at the bottom. Dawson used his charm and was himself, something Rose didn’t feel like she ever got to see from guys on her level. She fell for him, but sadly, Dawson died from the cold water temperatures.
Cady Heron in “Mean Girls”
There’s nothing tougher than being the new kid on campus. This was shown perfectly with Cady Heron in “Mean Girls.” When she first got to school, Heron was a book worm who loved solving math problems. After trying to link up with the popular girls to get revenge on Regina George, Heron lost herself.
She regains her values after getting in trouble at school and joining the math team. Heron’s brains help her win the state tournament where she comes to the stark realization that being a mean girl is completely wrong. When she redeems herself, it allows viewers to appreciate her as a fictional character.
Edward Cullen in “Twilight”

Edward Cullen quickly stole the hearts of fans after the “Twilight” movie franchise came to be. He’s a telepathic vampire who falls in love with a human girl named Bella Swan. His desire for her means he’s willing to do anything to be with her. He fights for her because he knows how much of a light she brings to his life.
