The Most Anticipated Movies at the End of This Year

In the past, the conclusion of the year was typically a dull period for movie enthusiasts, given that film studios traditionally prioritized releasing blockbusters during the summer months. However, the landscape shifted after the positive reception of “Titanic” in December 1997, prompting filmmakers to recognize the potential for box office success during the holiday season.

To determine the most anticipated movies coming at the end of 2023, 24/7 Tempo reviewed data on Wikipedia pageview activity for upcoming films. Movies coming out in 2023 were ranked based on the average daily pageviews for their Wikipedia pages from January 1, 2023 to October 23, 2023. Data on release dates and directorial credits are from IMDb.

Netflix is among the studios eyeing a holiday revenue boost, with five significant films slated for release. The list features movies from a total of 12 different studios.

Included among the reboots are the fantasy “Wonka,” a reimagining of the 2005 movie “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and its predecessor, the 1971 “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” and  “The Color Purple,” a musical adaptation of the Alice Walker novel that was made into a drama in 1985.

Two of the movies creating a lot of buzz are Ridley Scott’s sweeping epic “Napoleon,” starring Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix and “Maestro,” a biopic about American composer Leonard Bernstein, that was directed, produced and stars Bradley Cooper in the titular role. (On the other hand, here is a list of popular TV series that have been canceled or are coming to an end.)

Here are the 24 most anticipated movies coming at the end of the year.
