12 Fashion Trends We Want Back Next Year

When it comes to the world of fashion, trends are always coming and going. Deciding what’s considered stylish and fashionable no longer falls in the hands of professional designers and celebrity stylists at this point. Social media users are speaking up in viral videos across different platforms about the coolest trends they miss seeing. Regular everyday people are realizing they don’t have to be full-time models to classify as full-fledged fashionistas. Fashion can be divisive since it’s abundantly clear that everyone has different versions of what’s aesthetically pleasing.

By that same token, it can also be incredibly unifying. When lots of people come together in agreement that they’re hoping to see certain trends come back to the surface, it becomes easier for everyone to band together and revive those trends. It’s high time for the pages of every magazine to be filled with some of these iconic and forgotten trends that haven’t been around for a while.

To compile this list of fashionable trends that should be revived in the new year, 24/7 Tempo consulted fashion-centered websites such as Who What Where, Style Caster, and InStyle. (On the other hand, here is a list of trends that should go out of style in 2024.)

Oversized hair bows are charming and trendy.

There’s something fun and playful about wearing oversized bows in your hair. There’s a reason actress JoJo Siwa earned $400 million selling oversized bow accessories to her fan base a few years back. An oversized hair bow is a useful accessory for keeping your hair pulled out of your face.

Rubber bands and scrunchies are helpful for the same reasons, but they’re far more boring compared to oversized hair bows that come in an assortment of eye-catching colors.

Leg warmers and trendy and useful.

Leg warmers were popular in the 1980s, but that doesn’t mean they should be forgotten forever. Throughout that decade, actresses wore leg warmers on screen in several blockbuster movies. Eventually, people started wearing leg warmers to their aerobics classes and exercise sessions.

Today, everyone should still feel comfortable wearing leg warmers when the weather is chilly outside. Leg warmers are both trendy and logical since they add flair to an outfit while keeping your body temperature up.

Parasols

Parasols can be used to protect you from the sun.

You don’t often see people walking around with parasols while running their errands in this day and age. That’s because parasols are thought of as outdated inventions. These days, people simply pull out full umbrellas when it rains to shield them from the weather.

Parasols are smaller versions of umbrellas with prettier detailing like patterned lace. Parasols are cute accessories that do actually make some sense on sunny days to shield your face from absorbing too many harsh UV rays. Parasols fit into the cottagecore aesthetic. Some celebrities who have been dabbling with the cottagecore aesthetic lately include Kourtney Kardashian, Kaia Gerber, and Millie Bobby Brown.

Skinny jeans were all the rage for several years until young adults collectively decided they no longer wanted to wear them. Jeans with a looser fit started gaining traction over the last couple of years. Bellbottoms, boot cut jeans, and straight leg jeans have been rising in the ranks.

Skinny jeans should have never been ignored or forgotten based on the visual benefits they bring to an overall outfit. Skinny jeans that are properly fitted pair well with just about any top, cardigan, or jacket you have in your closet. Jeans that are way too loose can often distract from the stylish look you’re trying to achieve.

Choker necklaces don’t have to be thought of as trashy.

As far as accessories go, choker necklaces have consistently gotten a bad rap. The reason why? They’re always labeled “trashy” or “too edgy.” In reality, choker necklaces can be classy and chic when they are worn properly. There are tons of choker necklace styles to consider before denouncing them altogether.

These include chokers made out of lace, gold chains, shimmery beads, or crystal gems. Chokers can be layered along with other necklaces that dangle lower over your chest and collarbone. The position of your choker allows for a lot of versatility with the rest of your jewelry selection.

Elbow length gloves are as divine as it gets! Just think of Marilyn Monroe, for example. She’s one of the most fabulous icons to make a name for herself in the Hollywood industry in the 1950s. When she performed the song “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend,” she wore a pair of pink gloves that slid up over both of her elbows.

That look is something modern fashionistas can forever aspire to emulate. One of the best details about elbow gloves is that you can also wear rings and bracelets over them the way Monroe once did.

Brooches aren’t reserved for old folks.

Brooches are thought of as jewelry for old people, but that label isn’t fair at all. They’ve been worn for centuries and have always been regarded as classic accessories. Interestingly enough, there’s more to brooches than what meets the eye. Brooches are actually quite functional since they can be used to secure pieces of your clothing together.

Even if you aren’t using a brooch for a functional reason, adding a sparkly piece of jewelry to your outfit as adornment is a winning idea. in this modern era, stand out more than everyone around you by leaning into the brooch jewelry trend while your friends continue wearing typical earrings and bracelets.

Horizontally striped shirts deserve a time to shine.

People have been shunning horizontal-striped shirts and blouses for years. The shunning is based on the notion that this style will make your body look wider. Since plenty of people are avidly against the idea of showcasing a wider physique, ditching horizontal stripes has been an easy decision to make for most.

These days, many people are jumping on board to the body positivity train. This means the world is collectively trying to be less judgmental of others when it comes to body size and weight. That being said, horizontal-striped shirts and blouses should finally have a chance to shine in the new year.

Velvet dresses are a fashionable trend that should be revived in the new year. Occasionally, people are willing to wear dresses made of velvet material on celebratory holidays like Christmas, Hanukkah, or New Year’s Eve. Still, this type of fabric for a dress can easily be worn on different occasions that aren’t always directly related to a party.

There’s something undeniably sophisticated about wearing a dress made of velvet material. It’s soft to the touch, but it also catches gleams of shine based on the lighting you’re standing in.

Gladiator sandals are another fashionable trend that should be revived in the new year. They were all the rage from 2015 until 2018. Then suddenly, everyone wanted to get rid of them at once! Gladiator sandals are exciting to look at since there are so many straps, gems, and strings to admire.

Every pair of gladiator sandals is different, but the one detail they share in common is that they’re highly intricate. Gladiator sandals can stop at your ankles or tie all the way up to your knee caps. Most other flip-flops and sandals simply aren’t as enticing to look at as the gladiator style.

As long as your sunglasses have lenses that are large enough to protect your eyes from the sun, you’re already on the right track. The second most important detail is rocking pairs of sunglasses that come with colored lenses in the new year. There’s something sweetly playful about wearing colorful sunglasses, even though this is a trend that hasn’t been fashionable since the 1960s.

Decades have passed since then, but it’s high time to revisit the idea of wearing sunglasses with purple lenses, green lenses, or blue lenses when you’re running errands and socializing with your friends.

Dresses with puffy sleeves

Dresses with puffy sleeves are beyond fashionable.

Dresses with puffy sleeves are another example of the cottagecore trend surfacing in full force. Unfortunately, many people automatically turn their noses up to dresses with puffy sleeves since the style makes them think they’re stuck in the 17th century. In reality, puffy sleeves simply add to the allure of any typical dress you might already own.

A sundress with spaghetti straps or cut-off sleeves looks a tad boring compared to the exact same sundress with puffy sleeves attached on top. Before diving into the puffy sleeves trend for yourself, try a couple of them on at a physical boutique to see how you feel. Here are 10 things baby boomers are shopping for in physical stores these days.
