With so many streaming platforms to choose from these days, how do you narrow down the options? For a while, Netflix was the top streaming platform that reigned supreme. It seemed no other options were even slightly comparable. As of now, alternative streaming platforms have given Netflix a run for its money. While it’s true that Netflix is known for producing some incredible original TV shows and movies, viewers are still enjoying complete excellence from the likes of HBO Max, Hulu, and Amazon Prime.

Prime memberships start at $14.99 per month with an annual price point of $139. Prime features some popular channels like Showtime and Paramount Plus. Viewers can rely on Prime to watch live TV, sporting events, and many shows and movies.

Similar to Netflix and other competitors, streaming can be done from smartphones, tablets, and laptops as well. Choosing Prime as a trusted platform for entertainment is a great idea if you deeply appreciate the comedy genre. Actress Camila Mendes has landed tons of projects following the success of “Riverdale.” One of those projects happens to be “Upgraded,” which premiered in 2024. The comedy is available now for streaming on Prime telling the story of a woman named Ana with love on the brain.

She willfully leans into a case of mistaken identity after meeting a handsome guy she’s completely attracted to. When he finds himself convinced that she’s actually her boss, she doesn’t set the record straight. Instead, a romantic journey full of unexpected twists and turns ensues until he learns the truth.

Although “Hot Tub Time Machine” didn’t receive the highest praises on IMDb or Rotten Tomatoes, those scores don’t take away from its true hilarity. “Hot Tub Time Machine” is a movie that embodies the definition of true comedic genius. It focuses on a man who uses a malfunctioning time machine at a party.

He finds the time machine at a ski resort, but at first, he’s unaware of how different things will be based on changes he makes while zooming into the past. As soon as he realizes the gravity of his actions, he quickly jumps into action to relive the fateful night that changed it all. His ultimate goal is to make sure his nephew is still conceived. “Hot Tub Time Machine” stars John Cusack, Craig Robinson, and Rob Corddry in the leading roles.

“Upload” premiered in 2020 with its first well-received season. Since the show has been a hit so far, new seasons are still being filmed and released to this day. “Upload” certainly has a “Black Mirror” vibe to it since the technology featured on the show allows human beings to merge themselves into a virtual existence after dying. When the lead character, played by Robby Amell, uploads his consciousness into the virtual world after dying, he realizes things aren’t always as they seem.

He compares the failed relationship with Annie to his other failed romances as a way of pinpointing exactly where issues arise when he gets romantically involved with someone new. The movie is filled with a slew of funny moments as well as insightful ones. The award-winning comedy earned the Academy Award for Best Picture, the BAFTA Award for Best Film, and the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Film.

The show focuses on a group of misfit high school kids trying to get by in the 1980s. In accordance to the title, some of the characters on campus are “freaks” while others are “geeks.” Cardellini’s character, Lindsay Weir, spends her youth questioning whether or not she wants to fit in with troublemakers at school or kids who care about getting good grades.

Although they come from two different worlds, their love for each other is as real as it gets. When she contracts a mysterious illness that leaves them questioning how much time they’ll have left with each other, they’re suddenly forced to spend time with each other’s families. Emily’s disease becomes the catalyst that makes people from Kumail’s Pakistani culture and her American culture finally connect.

Ever since “SpongeBob SquarePants” landed on TV in 1999, it’s been labeled one of the most beloved TV shows for children ever. Unfortunately for him, no one he once knew actually wants to see him return. “Red Rocket” is full of heartfelt moments, but the funny scenes in the movie classify it as an incredible comedy.

Unfortunately for them, their plans went awry. They invented a fictional human being named Rick Stanicky to be their scapegoat. Funny enough, it totally worked as a way of keeping themselves out of trouble. Years later, it gets revealed that they still use Rick Stanicky’s name to avoid taking accountability for any of their wrongdoings.

With Love (2021 – 2023)

“With Love” is a comedy show that premiered in 2021. It lasted for two seasons coming to an end in 2023. It’s about two characters named Lily and Jorge Diaz. They’re siblings who share one lovey-dovey goal: They both want to find their soulmates so they’ll feel like they have true purposes in life. During the holiday season, they go out of their way to cross paths with people they might potentially be able to eventually marry.

The highs and lows of “With Love” are relatable and hilarious. In 2022, “With Love” received a nomination for the Outstanding New TV Series category at the 33rd GLAAD Media Awards. The nomination was well-deserved since “With Love” merits proper recognition for its comedic genius. The dedication the fictional parents have to keep their daughters protected takes them down undeniable paths of true hilarity. This comedy is a great movie to lean on for opening dialogue about sensitive topics in a funny and enlightened way. Keep in mind that “Blockers” is rated R based on its themes of sexuality.

It’s been compared to the likes of “The Office,” which focused on multiple employees working at a paper sales office. Although none of the employees on “The Office” had anything in common, they were forced to get through their 40-hour work week with each other. “Outlaws” brings a similar vibe aside from the fact that it isn’t filmed mockumentary-style.

There’s no denying that the producers pulled out all the stops when casting such an impressive lineup of individuals.

“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” tells the story of a bass guitarist name Scott who falls in love with a girl named Ramona Flowers. Unfortunately for him, her army of evil ex-boyfriends (and one ex-girlfriend) are determined to fight Scott to block him from pursuing a relationship with Ramona.
