Avoid All Tortilla Brands, Except These 7 Healthier Alternatives

Tortillas are the type of versatile product it’s great to have on hand. Whether you’re making tacos, burritos, fajitas, or homemade tortilla chips, there are a myriad of ways you can use tortillas for a quick lunch or dinner. While homemade tortillas are beyond comparison, store-bought tortillas offer the convenience you need for busy weeknights.

If you’re trying to cook a somewhat healthy meal, you might wonder which tortilla brands are the best to eat. While many tortilla brands contain hydrogenated oils, added sugar, and other unnecessary additives, many healthier brands are made without these ingredients.

Hydrogenated oils are common in many processed foods and have been a part of the food industry since the early 1900s. Since then, studies have shown that frequent consumption of these types of oils can lead to many negative side effects, including inflammation and an increased risk of Type 2 Diabetes and heart disease.

To avoid having to search the ingredient list of every tortilla brand in the store, we’ve created a list of the best tortillas you can buy. (After this article, check out the unhealthiest snacks hiding in your pantry.)

After reviewing Reddit and websites such as Allrecipes, Bon Appétit, and Eat This Not That, we determined some of the healthiest tortilla options in no particular order. These brands are considered healthier because they’re free of unnecessary additives and hydrogenated vegetable oils. Here are seven tortilla brands you should purchase.
