It wasn’t so long ago that Netflix was synonymous with movies. First, you’d wait for a movie to come out on video, then you’d wait for it to come to Netflix. But times have changed, and while Netflix remains a major player in the streaming wars, it’s just as vital a destination for TV shows (both original and not) as it is for movies.
It’s hard to believe it, but Netflix got its start in 2007 as a company that sent DVDs in the mail, providing subscribers the convenience of choosing online the films they wanted to watch instead of making a trip to Blockbuster. Nowadays, it’s the world’s largest streaming service in terms of subscribers, with about 270 million members in more than 190 countries. More than half of its library consists of Netflix Original programming, but there’s no shortage of great nonoriginal TV shows streaming on Netflix, some of which you might not have even realized were on offer.
To determine the best shows you should watch on Netflix this month, 24/7 Tempo reviewed data on streaming availability from Reelgood and audience reception from IMDb. Shows were ranked based on average IMDb user rating as of June 2024. In the case of a tie, the show with more user votes was ranked higher. Only shows with at least 1,000 user votes were considered.
