13 Foods That Will Take You Back to the 90s

Ready for a walk down memory lane? Few things can bring memories faster than food can. Whether you were growing up in the 1990s or already well into adulthood, there are plenty of ’90s foods and snacks that will quickly jolt your memory and take you back 30 years.

To compile this list of foods that will take you back to the 1990s, 24/7 consulted several lifestyle and food publications to identify food trends, including the Food Network and Business Insider. Here are 13 nostalgic foods that will take you straight back to the ’90s.

If you were growing up in the 90s, you either loved Creme Savers or they reminded you of your grandma–or maybe both. This creamy and fruity candy was popular in the 1990s, especially the Strawberries & Creme flavor. Even though they were discontinued, in 2023 it was announced that two Creme Savers flavors were returning to store shelves.

Trix Yogurt was another favorite snack among kids in the 1990s. With the fruity flavors and colorful swirl of yogurt, there was nothing better than enjoying a Trix Yogurt after school or during lunch. The most important part of eating this yogurt was being careful not to mix the colors and lose the beautiful swirl. Though this tasty yogurt was discontinued in 2016, it was back on some store shelves as of 2021.

Lunchables

Even though Lunchables are still a popular choice for kids there, there was a certain novelty to them in the 1990s. The first Lunchables came out in ’85 and no one at the lunch table felt cooler than the kid with a Pizza Lunchable. One of the main things that has changed about Lunchables is the packaging, but seeing a picture of the ’90s Lunchable packaging will bring back memories for any ’90s kid. What did kids drink in the 1990s? If you weren’t drinking a Capri Sun, you definitely had a Little Hug Fruit Barrel in hand. Despite how challenging it was to peel off the foil tops, the effort was rewarded with a sugary, fruity drink. Little Hugs had barely any resemblance to actual fruit juice, likely because they were made of food dyes and high fructose corn syrup, but they were a favorite drink among ’90s kids anyway.

Dinosaur Egg Oatmeal

Oatmeal can be a hit or miss for young kids, but what child could resist eating oatmeal with dinosaur eggs? Quaker made eating oatmeal exciting for kids. Eating this Dinosaur Egg Oatmeal meant you could watch the eggs turn into dinosaurs right before your eyes. This tasty and slightly nutritious breakfast was a hit in the 90s and you can still find a similar version in most grocery stores today.

Fruit snacks are always a popular treat for kids. They may have fruit in the name, but they’re essentially candy in the shape of your favorite characters. Even back in the 1990s, companies like Betty Crocker knew what kind of marketing worked on kids. The ’90s kids who were watching Scooby-Doo at home begged their parents to buy them Scooby-Doo-shaped fruit snacks.

The Flintstones Push-Up was the perfect summer treat for a hot day. These frozen sherbet treats came in a variety of flavors and were fun to eat, as long as you ate them before they melted. Nestlé still sells a version of the Push Up, but they’re not the same as the Flintstones ones. However, the similar packaging may be enough to jog the memory of any 90s kid or teen.

Fruit Roll-Ups were a must-have snack in 90s food culture. One of the best versions of the Fruit Roll-Ups that came out of the 1990s was the Fruit Roll-Ups with tongue tattoos. Every kid had their own way of eating fruit roll-ups whether you chose to roll it up and eat it all at once or enjoy it bit by bit. Like many other ’90s snacks, Fruit Roll-Ups are still a popular snack today.

Ring Pops

Who needs lollipops when you could have a Ring Pop? Ring Pops were the ultimate candy–a lollipop and a ring all in one. If you were a kid enjoying a Ring Pop in the 90s, you definitely showed it off to all your friends (and maybe even pretended it was an engagement ring.) The good news is if you’re a fan of Ring Pops, they’re still easy to find in most candy aisles.

Cosmic Brownies are another classic 1990s snack that is still around today. The best part of Cosmic Brownies was the colorful chocolate candies on top adding the perfect crunch to these soft, fudgy brownies. Although the packaging may look a bit different, 90s kids who enjoyed these brownies can still grab a box at the grocery store.

As a kid in the 1990s, there was nothing better than finding a pack of Dunkaroos in your lunch. This is one of the ’90s snacks that has come back around and you can now find Dunkaroos in most grocery stores. If you’re not familiar with the joy of Dunkaroos, go look for this classic cookie and icing combo on your next shopping trip.

While there are many moms today who would cringe at the idea of feeding their kids pasta from a can, in the 1990s, plenty of kids lived off of Spaghetti-Os (or Chef Boyardee for that matter.) They were the perfect easy lunch or dinner for busy school nights or something to make quick on the weekends when your parents didn’t feel like cooking.

The Wonderball was the ultimate treat in the 1990s, although ’90s kids may remember it as the Nestlé Magic Ball. The original version of this treat was a chocolate ball with a toy inside, but it was discontinued in the mid-90s after it was deemed a choking hazard. The Wonderball was released again in the 2000s, this time with candy inside of the chocolate ball, but it didn’t last long and was once again discontinued.
