The R-rating began in 1968. Back then, the ratings were voluntary. Now, all movies must be rated, and if children under 17 want to see an R-rated film, they must be accompanied by an adult. In addition to the scary scenes, the movie was also a winner due to the acting of Bill Skarsgård, who played the killer clown. He gave the film a haunting touch of realism.
