50 Celebrities With Super-Famous Parents

50 Celebrities With Super-Famous Parents

“The fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree.” “Like father, like son” (and presumably “Like mother, like daughter”). “A chip off the old block.” In other words, children often end up resembling their parents — so it shouldn’t be surprising that a large number of celebrities have famous moms and/or dads.

Consider, for example, the Cyrus, Stiller, and Barrymore families, represented today by Miley Cyrus, Ben Stiller, and Drew Barrymore, respectively. Cyrus’s father is country music star Billy Ray Cyrus; Stiller is the son of actor/comedians Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara; Barrymore comes from what has been called “the royal family of the American stage,” with a lineage including actors Lionel, Ethel, and John Barrymore, as well as Drew’s father, John Drew Barrymore. (Here is a list of the most famous actors from each state.)

Dakota Johnson, star of the erotic “Fifty Shades” movie series, is another multi-generational celebrity. Her mother is Oscar-nominated actress Melanie Griffith (“Working Girl”) and her grandmother, Tippi Hedren, starred in the Hitchcock classics “The Birds” and “Marnie.”

Allison Williams, star of “Girls” and “Get Out,” is the daughter of famed television journalist and news anchor Brain Williams. (It’s always nice when well-known couples stay together, which isn’t always the case. But these are the 30 longest-lasting celebrity marriages.)

To assemble a list of 50 celebrities with famous parents, 24/7 Tempo pored through articles on the subject on numerous entertainment and general interest sites, and verified credits and biographical details using IMDb, an online movie database owned by Amazon.

Did having a famous parent or two help these stars of today break into show business? It certainly didn’t hurt. But a head start will only get you so far, and these celebrities have all proven themselves in the course of their careers and have become justly famous in their own right.
